The Diabetes Empowerment Education Program, also known as DEEP™, is an education curriculum designed to help people with pre-diabetes, diabetes, relatives and caregivers gain a better understanding of diabetes self-care. Classes last a total of six weeks, providing participants with eight unique learning modules.

Goals of the DEEP curriculum include improving and maintaining the quality of life of persons with pre-diabetes and existing diabetes; preventing complications and incapacities; improving eating habits and maintaining adequate nutrition; increasing physical activity; developing self-care skills; and improving the relationship between patients and health care providers.

The Ventura County Area Agency on Aging, an agency of the County of Ventura, is the principal agency in Ventura County charged with the responsibility to promote the development and implementation of a comprehensive coordinated system of care that enables older individuals and their caregivers to live in a community-based setting and to advocate for the needs of those 60 years of age and older in the county, providing leadership and promoting citizen involvement in the planning process as well as in the delivery of services.

HELP of Ojai is a vital resource for residents of the Ojai Valley, serving as the only full time, basic needs provider in the area, equipped to assist clients when they are at their most vulnerable and unable to travel elsewhere for help. HELP of Ojai operates nine separate programs, collaborating to provide a “one-stop” destination for clients seeking intensive support unhindered by administrative burdens.
