The County of Ventura’s Senior Nutrition Program Farm is a collaborative effort among local government, nonprofits, and private businesses to provide fresh, local, organic produce to older adults throughout Ventura County. The VCAAA’s Senior Nutrition Program serves more than 200,000 meals annually. During the COVID-19 crisis alone, the VCAAA served more than 6 million meals to residents of Ventura County.
This cannot be accomplished without the dedication of volunteers and donors alike.
The Senior Nutrition Farm provides an opportunity for people of all ages to stay active through volunteerism. It also enables older adults to mentor youth in sustainable gardening practices, availing of Ventura County’s greatest natural resource – its agricultural fertility.
Nearly 25,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce was harvested from the Senior Nutrition Farm in the 2021-22 fiscal year. On average, the Garden produces 1,000 pounds of produce a week – all of which is distributed to older adults who otherwise do not have access to fresh produce.
