Older adults are increasingly returning to the workforce, driven by a combination of personal and financial reasons. Some seek employment to stay active, maintain social connections or pursue a sense of purpose after retirement. Others face economic pressures, such as rising living costs, insufficient retirement savings or the need to support family members.

However, re-entering the workforce can present challenges. The VCAAA Advisory Council’s Workforce Subcommittee produced a video and tip sheet to help older adults reenter the job force, with strategies and suggestions on searching, applying, and interviewing for positions.

Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

The Title V Senior Community Services Employment Training Program (SCSEP) provides limited employment training and wages for low-income persons aged 55 and older. This program helps older adults seeking employment to gain the skills needed in today’s job market. SCSEP is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and focuses on the needs of mature workers, the community, and employers.

• Be unemployed & need further training to perform jobs available in the area
• Be a resident of Ventura County
• Authorized to work in the U.S.
• Meet family income requirements (limit of 125% of Poverty Guidelines)

Ventura County Works

The Workforce Development Board of Ventura County and America’s Job Center of California provide assistance through Ventura County Works. Individuals can find career coaching, job training or assistance with job searches, all at no cost.
