VENTURA, California – Eighteen Ventura County farms, ranches, and agricultural organizations are opening their gates to the public this Saturday (Nov. 4) for the 11th annual Ventura County Farm Day. The Senior Nutrition Farm is among the stops offering tours and fun activities.

Visitors to the Senior Nutrition Farm will have the opportunity to feed the chickens, learn about the more than 50 varieties of fruits and vegetables that are grown there, and take home some seeds of their own.

The Senior Nutrition Farm, located at 4156 Southbank Road in Oxnard, will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Established in 2009, the Farm sits on 2.5 acres. It is managed by the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging, a division of the Human Services Agency, and is maintained primarily by volunteers. The food grown on the Farm goes straight into home-delivered meal boxes for homebound older adults and to local Senior Centers to include in their congregate meals. At its peak, the Farm has produced roughly 185,000 servings and 28,000 pounds of food in a single year.
